Munich/Lidingö, 22 January 2015 – Technology company The Linde Group, via its Scandinavian business branch AGA, will build its first hydrogen refuelling station in Sweden at Arlanda airport outside Stockholm. The new station, which will be the country’s largest so far, coincides with the introduction respectively announcement of serial-produced Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) by many leading car manufacturers.
The “green” hydrogen will be produced by electrolysers running on renewable electricity from hydro-power in AGA’s new production plant in Sandviken, some 180 km north of Stockholm. The station’s core components, based on Linde’s proprietary ionic compressor technology, are designed and assembled in Linde’s recently inaugurated small–serial manufacturing facility in Vienna, Austria.
“We are convinced that hydrogen-fuelled zero-emission vehicles with a range of more than 500 km between refuellings will be an important factor in reaching Sweden’s goal of fossil-free transportation by 2030”, says Roger Andersson, responsible for development at AGA, Clean Energy. “With this high-throughput station we lay the foundation for a broader hydrogen infrastructure in this country and in Europe.”
The new station will be operated by AGA and is envisaged to become part of a larger network with links to similar infrastructure initiatives in Norway, Denmark and Germany. The Arlanda station will be a “full size” unit with a maximum capacity of 180 fillings per day. Normal refuelling at a pressure of 700 bar will take only about three minutes.
Built with contribution from the EU, the facility is planned to go in operation in September 2015 and will be located next to a recently acquired biogas station.
As the world's largest manufacturer of hydrogen plants and a pioneer in the hydrogen mobility sector, Linde covers the entire technology spectrum required to successfully use the gas as an energy source – from hydrogen generation to refuelling. Linde has equipped over 90 fuelling stations in 15 countries with innovative hydrogen refuelling technology, supporting fuel-cell cars, buses and forklift trucks.
